The South African National Editor’s Forum (SANEF) has launched an elections portal to provide journalists with tools for reporting the upcoming 2021 municipal elections set to take place in October this year.

The tools will include training materials, elections updates, elections resources, and dashboards for newsrooms.

The training modules for journalists will include how municipal elections work, the role of the media during elections; disinformation during elections; safety of journalists, and municipal finances.

SANEF has also built an elections dashboard and pocket reporter, a ‘responsive toolset’, which will assist established and aspiring journalists covering the local government elections and beyond. These dashboards will provide detailed information on municipal demographics and finances to assist journalists with their elections coverage.
