Reuters Journalism Fellowship Programme
Mid-career journalists can apply for a fellowship at Oxford University, United Kingdom. The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism seeks applicants for its Journalist Fellowship Program, which will begin in October 2023, January 2024, and April 2024, and last three or six months. The program gives visiting journalists from around the world an opportunity to critically reflect upon their profession, research a subject of their choice under the supervision of an academic specializing in that area, and enjoy the breadth of academic, cultural, and social life at the University of Oxford. Coastal Resilience Story Grants 2023
The Earth Journalism Network is offering reporting grants to journalists worldwide to support the production of in-depth stories that will call attention to coastal resiliency and solutions for coastal issues. Applicants can be from any country in the world; applicants from coastal countries reporting on their home communities are preferred. Groups of journalists are eligible, particularly from different countries seeking to produce a cross-border project. However, the application must be made in the name of one lead applicant. Lead applicants are responsible for communicating with EJN and receiving funds on the group’s behalf if awarded. The Contemporary African Photography
Photographers can submit photos and compete for prizes.The Contemporary African Photography Prize, in partnership with the Eiger Foundation, is accepting entries for CAP Prize 2023.Interested photographers must submit photos that engage with the African continent or its diaspora.Winners will be awarded with a series of large scale outdoor exhibitions around the globe. Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism
The annual award recognizes outstanding examples of investigative reporting that reveal untold stories, hold the powerful to account, and question those in public life within South Africa. Komla Dumor Award
Journalists from across Africa are invited to apply for the Komla Dumor award, which aims to uncover and promote fresh talent from the continent. The winner of the BBC World News Komla Dumor award will receive a once-in-a-lifetime training and development opportunity with the BBC in London, starting in early September 2023 and running for three months. Working with teams from across BBC News, the winner will produce an African story for the BBC and have their story and their voice shared across the continent and the world. They will be supported by a high-level BBC mentor and attend courses run by the BBC’s world-class training department, the BBC Academy. She Entrepreneurs Leadership Programme
She Entrepreneurs is a leadership programme for highly motivated women entrepreneurs in North Africa who are building sustainable and scalable businesses that contribute to driving social and/or environmental change. In the past years that the programme has been running, many entrepreneurs received support that helped them become successful in expanding and increasing their impact. The programme runs over six months. It combines regular workshops and individual mentor support online with one intensive week of onsite learning in Stockholm in September. UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2023
This Prize is awarded each year to a person, organization or institution that has made a notable contribution to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, particularly if risks were involved. Logan Science Journalism Program
The Logan Science Journalism Program, founded in 1986, offers science journalists, writers, editors, and broadcast journalists a chance to forget about story deadlines and immerse themselves in basic biomedical or environmental research. The program will select five photography projects with a strong call to action for land and/or water protection. Selected projects will receive a US$5,000 grant. The Reporting Award award provides up to $12,500 for a significant work of journalism, in any medium, on an under-reported subject in the public interest. In establishing the award, the Arthur L. Global Shining Light Award
The Global Investigative Journalism Network presents the Global Shining Light Award, a unique award which honors investigative journalism in a developing or transitioning country, done under threat, duress, or in the direst of conditions. There are two award categories: Small & Medium Outlets (organizations with staff of 20 or less, including freelancers); and Large Outlets (organizations with more than 20 staff). Top winners will receive an honorary plaque, US$2,500, and a trip to the 2023 Global Investigative Journalism Conference to accept the award in front of hundreds of their colleagues from around the world. SADC Media Awards
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has launched the 2023 SADC Media Awards competition in the four categories namely; Photo, Print, Television and Radio Journalism. The SADC Media Awards were established in 1996 to recognise best media work in disseminating information on SADC to support the process of regional co-operation and integration in the region. Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award
The Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award is a grant of $12,500 to support the work of a promising early-career nonfiction writer on a story that uncovers truths about the human condition. A panel of NYU journalism professors, outside writers, and editors will review the proposals. Finalists may be asked to interview in person or by Skype. The judges will be interested in perpetuating Power’s legacy, as his former editor Roger Hodge put it, of “strong, character-driven narratives with detailed scene writing and lyrical description.” Power was always open to the absurdity that often attends politics and international affairs; he was always searching, as he put it, for “the human truth beneath the sorry facts.” Power’s ultimate ambition, he added, was literary beauty. Next Generation Women Leaders EMEA will begin the evening of Thursday, April 20 with welcome words, an opportunity to ask questions, and ample time to get to know one another in an informal setting.
